Terms of Service

Effective September 18, 2026 · Last updated September 18, 2026

1. Who we are and what this is

SmartHandy.men ("we", "us") operates a website where New York City homeowners and renters ("clients") describe a repair job, receive an AI-generated preliminary price range, and receive bids from independent home-improvement professionals ("pros"). We are a marketplace and an introduction service. We do not perform any repair work.

SmartHandy.men is operated by Uforatsto Inc., New York.

By using the site you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. You must be at least 18 years old to use it.

2. Pros are independent businesses

Every pro on SmartHandy.men is an independent business, not our employee, agent, partner or subcontractor. Pros decide which jobs to bid on, set their own prices, manage their own schedules, and are solely responsible for their own licenses, permits, insurance, taxes and the quality of their work.

We do not set or approve a pro's price. The AI price range is information for the client; the pro's bid is the pro's own offer. We do not guarantee any pro a minimum volume of work, and we do not penalize a pro for declining a job.

Any contract for repair work is formed directly between the client and the pro. We are not a party to it.

3. AI estimates

Every estimate on the site is accompanied by the following notice, which forms part of these Terms:

This is an AI-generated preliminary estimate range based on typical NYC prices. It is not a quote, offer, or contract. Final pricing is set and confirmed by the professional after reviewing your job. SmartHandy.men is a marketplace; professionals are independent businesses, not our employees.

Estimates cover labor only unless stated otherwise, are based on a pricebook of typical NYC rates, and may be wrong for your specific job. Photos and descriptions you submit may be incomplete, and the AI may misread them. Do not make decisions that depend on an exact price until you have a bid from a pro.

The estimator declines certain work (for example gas, structural, roofing, electrical-panel and hazardous-material work). A refusal is not a safety assessment; if you suspect a gas leak or an electrical hazard, contact your utility or 911 first.

4. Licensing and verification

New York City law requires a Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) license for home-improvement work costing $200 or more (NYC Admin Code § 20-386), a Department of Buildings license for electrical work, and a Department of Buildings license for plumbing work. We route requests only to pros whose verified licenses allow them to do the work, based on the estimate range and the job's trade; light plumbing items may also be routed to HIC-licensed contractors, never in co-op or condo buildings.

We check every license by hand against the official NYC register at onboarding and keep its number and verification date on file; an insurance certificate is an insurer's document, which we check by hand and keep on file with its expiry date. Verification means the document matched the register, or the certificate was current, on the date we checked it. It is not a guarantee that the license or insurance is valid on the day of your job, that the pro is competent, or that the work will comply with building rules. Clients should confirm license and insurance status with the pro before work begins.

Pros must keep their licenses and insurance current and tell us immediately when anything lapses. Misrepresenting a license is grounds for immediate removal.

5. Requests, bids and selection

A client request is open to bids for 14 days and accepts at most 5 bids, after which it closes to new bids. A request that reaches a pro through that pro's own page accepts one bid, from that pro, unless the pro has chosen to release unanswered requests to the marketplace after a set time.

A bid is the pro's offer of a price, an earliest start date and any notes. When a client selects a bid, we reveal the client's and the pro's phone number and email to each other. From that point the client and pro deal directly.

Clients may cancel a request at any time before marking it complete. A bid stands until the request closes, expires or is cancelled, or until the pro asks us to withdraw it. After selection, changes to price or scope are between the client and the pro.

6. Payments and fees

SmartHandy.men does not process payments. Clients pay pros directly, under whatever terms they agree. We do not hold funds, issue invoices on a pro's behalf, or mediate refunds.

Use of the site is free for clients. Pros are not charged per lead, per bid or for viewing requests, and direct requests from a pro's own page are free. We may introduce fees in the future; any fee will be announced by email at least 30 days in advance and will never apply retroactively.

7. Reviews

Only the client who selected a pro may review that job, once, after marking it complete. Reviews must be honest and based on the client's own experience. We do not accept payment for placement, do not let pros edit reviews, and may remove reviews that are abusive, fraudulent, off-topic, or written by someone who was not the client.

We may use the final price a client reports paying, in aggregate, to improve our estimates. Individual final prices are not shown on pro profiles.

8. Acceptable use

You must give accurate contact and job information, submit only photos you have the right to share, and use the site only to get or provide home-repair services in New York City. You may not scrape the site, create requests you do not intend to pursue, harass pros or clients, or attempt to bypass license gating, bid caps, or rate limits.

We may suspend or remove any account that breaks these rules.

9. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and text you submit. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store them, send them to our AI provider to generate your estimate, show them to eligible pros, and use them internally to improve our estimates. Pros grant us the same license for profile and portfolio photos so we can display them on their public page.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The site and the estimates are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We do not warrant that any pro will bid, that any pro is suitable, or that any work will be performed, performed on time, or performed well.

To the extent permitted by New York law, SmartHandy.men is not liable for the acts or omissions of any pro or client, for property damage or injury arising from repair work, or for indirect, incidental or consequential damages. Our total liability for all claims relating to the site is limited to the greater of $100 or the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits any right New York consumer-protection law gives you that cannot be limited by contract.

11. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify SmartHandy.men against third-party claims that arise from your own breach of these Terms or your own unlawful conduct on or through the site. This does not cover claims caused by our own breach or negligence.

12. Disputes and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute between you and SmartHandy.men will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and both of us consent to their jurisdiction; either of us may instead bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court. These Terms contain no arbitration clause and no class-action waiver.

Disputes between a client and a pro are between them; we may, but need not, help.

13. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms. Each version shows its effective date at the top of this page. For material changes we will email registered users at least 30 days before the new version takes effect; other changes take effect when posted. Using the site after the effective date means you accept the new version.
